On Shigonawa Bingo

Shibari Lounge is deeply honoured to host Japanese Shibari legend Shigonawa Bingo for a weekend of workshops and performances.

Shibari artist, teacher and performer Shigonawa Bingo (born 1963) is one of Japan’s leading kinbakushi, having performed in countless live shows in- and outside of Japan, for numerous adult videos and running his own kinbaku bar. Bingo san never fails to blow his audience away with his enigmatic presence – an exciting mixture between a perfect gentleman and a passionate sadist – and thrilling stage performances in which he takes his partners to their edge every single time.

Bingo san runs bar — mitsu — in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Nearby he has his private kinbaku space 'Shigonawa Salon', where he gives private sessions and private tuition to afficionados from Japan and abroad.

Having been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in 2022, his wish is to leave his legacy. He is currently working on a documentary about his life as a shibarite and at the same time wants to give Shibari enthusiasts outside of Japan the chance to get to know his unique style of tying by coming to Europe one more time to share his knowledge and philosophy.

Shigonawa Style

Bingo san has developed a unique approach to erotic rope bondage, unlike any other contemporary kinbaku artist. His style and philosophy are all about mutual satisfaction. He seeks to match the needs of the person in his ropes, be it pain, being dominated, or ultimately sexual satisfaction. Taking the time to understand the mental and emotional state of his ukete is key. To this end, he does not just rely on verbal communication but includes position and proximity to get natural and unfiltered messages from the person he is about to tie. Where does the ukete want to go, is (s)he hiding desires out of shame? Can Bingo san take away the barriers to overcome this shame? Every tie thus becomes an experiment and forges a unique relationship between Bingo san and the person in his ropes.

On Satsuki

Satsuki is a Ukete (rope bottom), Semete (rope top), and blogger from Taiwan. She is alternately based in Taiwan and the UK. Satsuki found her way to rope in 2016, when she first attended a shibari workshop as a Ukete in Taiwan. During the past eight years she has been exploring the path and variety of shibari as a way to connect and communicate with many Semete in performances and for modelling. Somewhere along the way she became both Semete and Ukete. The experiences from both sides have a distinct place in her approach to shibari, but are nevertheless always interrelated. She always had a passion towards shibari, but the picture did not become completely clear until she encountered Bingo, who pursues the type of shibari she always dreamt of.
